Conferences

Conferences can be expensive, but the networking and new knowledge that can be gained from them are often worth the cost. The same scholarship funds through state RTAP programs can usually be used to fund registration for a conference as well.  There are often state-level funding opportunities for conference travel and attendance. Many state RTAP programs limit the number of conferences that a single person can attend. For Tribes, regional and national organizations may be able to provide scholarships for this purpose. The following is a list of conferences that are often attended by rural and Tribal transit providers, and state RTAP managers. 

ADA National Network's (ADANN) National ADA Symposium provides the latest information on ADA regulations and guidelines, implementation strategies, and best practices

Advanced Clean Transportation Expo (ACTExpo) showcases alternative fuels, connected vehicle technologies, fuel efficiency improvement strategies and equipment

American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) holds three meetings per year for members, including the Legislative Briefing, the Spring Meeting and the Annual Meeting.  They also hold conferences, such as GIS for Transportation (GIS-T).

American Bus Association (ABA) holds BusWorld North America brings together international manufacturers and suppliers and serves as a platform for industry leaders to network and learn during the Busworld Academy.

American Public Transit Association Conferences (APTA) provides a wide range of transportation conferences suited to the needs of many different niches in the transportation industry. These include state programs, transit managers, legislative affairs, etc.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) International Conference on Transportation & Development facilitates exchange of information, knowledge, and best practices among transportation and development practitioners,  researchers and other stakeholders.

American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Annual Convention and Traffic Expo for safety professionals and transportation officials

Automotive Fleet's Fleet Safety Conference focuses on safety, risks and human resources

Bobit Business Media's Fleet Forward Conference is a conference dedicated specifically for fleets

Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) EXPO is a large gathering of transit operators, drivers, managers, transportation organizations, state DOT representatives, and high-level transportation policy makers, and covers a large variety of transportation topics.

FTA meetings and conferences cover topics in FTA policy and regulations. 

Government Fleet's Government Fleet Expo & Conference (GFX) is known as the largest annual community gathering of public fleets in the nation. 

Institute of Transportation Engineers National Rural ITS Conference provide participants a one-stop resource focusing on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) implementation in local communities.

ITS America holds an annual conference about intelligent transportation systems.

Metro Magazine hosts several large conferences: America's Bus and Coach Expo and Transit Bus eXchange

National Environmental Justice Conference and Training Program

Rural Public and Intercity Bus Transportation Conference (every 2 years) focuses on new technology, and trends in rural and intercity bus transportation. 

National RTAP's Technical Assistance Conference (every 2 years) focuses on practical resources and learning for rural and tribal transit providers, state program managers, and other transportation practitioners. 

National Rural Transportation Conference focuses on connecting regional transportation planners, state DOT representatives, and partners to learn about and discuss rural and very small urban transportation topics. 

National Shared Mobility Summit from the Shared Use Mobility Center discusses the latest developments in carsharing, shared autonomous and electric vehicles, bikesharing, e-hailing, microtransit and more.

National Transportation in Indian Country Conference (NTICC) is held by the Center for Tribal Transportation.

National Tribal Transportation Conference (NTTC) brings Tribal transit professionals and other partner groups together to discuss a variety of transportation topics, including technical topics, and legislation.

State Transit Association Conferences—These conferences are often put on in partnership with State DOTs, and cater to transit agencies, including drivers when a roadeo is held.

TRB Annual Meeting brings together thousands of transportation professionals from all aspects of the transportation industry, including policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. Topics covered are numerous and relate to all of these groups.

TransEd Conferences focus on the exchange and dissemination of knowledge and experience for the development of transport services and systems that meet the needs of people who have mobility impairments.

TransitCon is a virtual conference that consists of concurrent sessions: transit professionals, open mics, and regional discussions.

West Coast Collaborative hosts an annual Green Transportation Summit & Expo (GTSE)

United Motorcoach Association holds an annual UMA Motorcoach Expo, which is the largest annual gathering of bus & motorcoach owners and operators.
